Up above
The city is not empty
Drones circle the roofs, listening for engines and looking for light. One careless night — a fire too bright, a radio left on — and they turn your way. Every choice is a trade: warmth or silence, food today or tomorrow, safety or someone left outside.
The higher the Hush, the farther the drones pass.
